History

     Cultureville was created in 1977 by Looeez Gupe as a small hand-written newsletter to her local dance group. She drew pictures and wrote articles about dance and fashion and soon had people outside the dance group wanting the newsletter. As interest increased, she was able to get help from a trained monkey who transcribed the newsletter. After a few months, however, the monkey had to take maternity leave and so it was time to go with technology. Buying one of those big turn the handle purple printing machine things with her meagre savings meant the newletter could be produced in much larger quantities, but a cost had to be introduced.
